It is deeply saddening that we have people in our very own communities who are suffering from severe poverty, and are put in a position to decide between fuel or food. Newcastle West End Food Bank supports 1,000 people per week of which 45% are children under 16 and caters for around 300 people for a week who come to the West end food bank centre for a hot meal and supports people in crisis.
We are campaigning to raise £40k which will give us enough money to strip the current kitchen out completely, upgrade the electric & plumbing and install a full catering kitchen which has been designed and costed by a local company.
Currently the centre caters for people in a kitchen with limited resources and is run solely by goodwill and volunteering and struggles to keep up with demand. With a new kitchen set up for catering large numbers the centre will be able to cater more efficiently and meet the demands of the increasing numbers in crisis.
The Newcastle West End Foodbank struggle throughout the year to help the most vulnerable. And we would like to do all we can to ease the pressure on this critical service to our local community.
